The death occurred peacefully on May 06, 2021, at Kings County Memorial Hospital, of Rita Theresa MacPhee (nee MacDonald) of Newport aged 83. Beloved wife of the late Roderick MacPhee. Loving mother of Joey MacPhee, Malcolm MacPhee (Roseanne), Louise Thompson (Frankie), Geraldine Sharkey (Paul), and Kenny MacPhee. Dear grandmother of Theresa Thompson, Gerald Mitchell and Jenna Sharkey; and great grandmother of Hunter Thompson, Logan Sharkey, and Erik and Hailey Marion. Also survived by her sisters, Bernice Sheehan, Sarah Newell and Annie Allan; by her brother, Michael MacDonald (Florence); and by brother-in-law, Charles Somers. Besides her husband Roddie, she was predeceased by her parents, Duncan and Regina MacDonald; by her grandsons, Steven Thompson, and Christopher Thompson in infancy; her brother, Joseph MacDonald; her sisters, Mary Flynn (Alphonsus), Nora MacDonald (Elwood), Clemie Somers, and Georgina MacDonald (Alex). Resting at North Shore Funeral Home, Morell. Due to covid-19 regulations, visitation and funeral mass will be by invitation only. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, May 10, 2021 at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, St. George’s at 2:00 pm. The funeral mass for the late Rita Theresa MacPhee was held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, St. George’s, with Father Tim Broderick officiating. Placing the pall were Joey MacPhee, Louise Thompson, Geraldine Sharkey, and Kenny MacPhee. Altar Server was Edith MacDonald. The first reading was read by Hannah Bell, while Cindy Shepard proclaimed the second reading. Leona Campbell offered the prayers of intercession. Father Broderick read the gospel and delivered the homily. The Pallbearers were Kenny MacPhee, Ricky MacLean, James MacDonald, Frankie Thompson, Blair Somers and Paul Sharkey. Honorary pallbearers consisted of everyone in attendance. Flower Bearers were Jenna Sharkey, Mitchel Sharkey, and Hunter Thompson. Music was provided by Stella Stewart, Tracey Stewart and Maggie Campbell singing, Processional, Be Not Afraid: Offertory, Gentle Woman; Communion, Come to the Water; Incensing, Songs of the Angles; and the Recessional, Amazing Grace. Interment took place in the parish cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
