On Thursday, 6 November 2008, at the Kings County Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness and surrounded by his family, the death occurred of Michael Joseph (Mickey) MacDonald of Newport, a veteran of the Second World War, in 89th year. He is survived by his children Robert, Patsy (the later Fred) Myers, Anne Marie (Norbert) Morrison, Helen (Jim) Larkin, Claire MacDonald, Rita (Mark) Arsenault, Jerome (Loraine), Edith and Edward (Sheila); 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Josephine MacDonald and Emily Sharkey. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite (Sharkey), sister Elizabeth (Laurence) Hennessey, and brothers Angus Dan, Charles (Ellen), George (Mary), and Joseph. Visiting hours will be held at St. George's Roman Catholic Church, St. Georges, on Friday, 7 November, from 2-4 and 7-9p.m., with a Legion service at 6:45. The funeral service will be held at St. Georges at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, 8 November 2008. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the King's County Memorial Hospital Equipment Fund or to the St. Georges' Cemetery Fund.
