Merrill Garrett Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family announces the sudden passing at Kings County Memorial Hospital of Merrill Moodie Garrett on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 aged 78.  Born in Montague on June 07,  1945, Merrill was the son of the late Alvin and Susan (MacDonald) Garrett.  Loving husband of 53 years to Freda Garrett (nee MacDonald); father to Brendon Garrett; chosen daughter, Debbie Trainor (Paul); and  brother to Marjorie Robertson.  He will be also sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Phyllis MacKinnon and Alice MacDonald; brother-in-law, George MacDonald (Edith):  his nieces, Linda Robertson (Bob), Joyce Robertson and Natalie Robertson; as well as numerous extended family members.  Predeceased by his brother, Keith; brothers-in-law Heber Robertson, Wallace MacDonald, Wayne MacDonald, Raymond MacKinnon; chosen brother-in-law Murdock Blaxland, and by his nephews, David Robertson and Gerald Robertson (in infancy).  There will be no visitation by personal request.  A graveside service will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Dundas United Church Cemetery.  All are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be gratefully accepted in Merrill’s memory to the Dundas United Church Cemetery or the Upton Gospel Chapel.  To send the family a condolence please send to northshorefh2@gmail.com.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.


The Committal service for the late Merrill Moodie Garrett was held at Dundas United Church Cemetery on August 25, 2023 with Westley Stead and Randy MacDonald officiating. Music was provided by Crystal and Randy MacDonald singing On the Far Side Banks of Jordan. Pallbearers were Jason MacDonald, Jody MacDonald, Randy MacDonald, Don MacKinnon, Eric MacLeod, Kyle MacLeod, and George MacKinnon. Honorary Pallbearers were everyone in attendance. The flower bearers were Lisa MacDonald and Natalie Robertson. Distributing the bulletins for the celebration were Joyce Robertson and Linda Roberston. Prayers and scripture readings were done by Randy MacDonald and Wesley Stead, who also offered words of remembrance. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
