It is with heavy hearts and an appreciation of a life well lived, the family of Mary “Edwina“ Wood (nee MacDonald) announces her peaceful passing surrounded by family, on August 8, 2023, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born on April 27, 1938 in Little Pond, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lauretta MacDonald. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alban Wood, son Gerald “Gerry”, dear sister Elaine and nephew Edward MacKinnon. She is survived by her children, Berni, Gene (Marlene), Elaine Thomson (Paul), Gerard, Carla Wood-Whitty (Vernon), Karen MacLaren (Johnny), and Steve (Richele). Special Grammie to Aaron Taylor (Lindsay), Josh Whitty (Chelsea), Kyle MacLaren (Paige),Trent Whitty (Tiffany), Melissa Dodge (Jordan), Brett Wood (Keesha), Jodhi Wood-Gaudet (Geoff), Cayla Wood, Ryan Thomson (Angela), Andrew Saulnier and Nikita Whitty, Step-Grammie to Deanna MacLellan (Sherry Lydia).
Great Grammie to Noah, Olivia & Benjamin Whitty, Jaxon & Danika MacLaren, Jack, Brooks & Lena Taylor, Charlotte & Harrison Dodge and Dominic Samms. Step Great Grammie to Bentley Wilton. Edwina was well-known for her loving, caring nature, sense of humour and strong faith. The family would like to thank the staff of the Garden Home for providing many years of care and comfort. Special thanks to Dr. Jane Hennessey, Staff of Unit 2, ICU, Emergency Depts of Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Island EMS.
Resting at the Dr. Roddie Community Centre, St. Peter’s Bay, with visitation on Friday, August 11th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral mass and interment will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s Bay, Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 am.

The funeral for the late Mary “Edwina” Wood was held on August 12, 2023, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s Bay, with Father Danny Wilson officiating. Laying the Pall were Bernard and Louise MacKinnon, Gerard and Tammy MacKinnon and Terry and Janet Doran. Eucharistic Ministers were Cathy McKenna and Joe MacDonald. The first reading was read by Melissa Thomson while Janet Doran proclaimed the second reading. Nikita Whitty offered the prayers of intercession. Father Wilson read the gospel and delivered the homily. The pallbearers consisted of Aaron Taylor, Josh Whitty, Kyle MacLaren, Trent Whitty, Brett Wood, and Ryan Thomson. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Thomson, Vernon Whitty, Johnny MacLaren, Marlene Miles, Richele Rowley, Lindsay Taylor, Chelsea Morrison, Paige MacLaren, Tiffany Whitty, Keisha Hebert, Angela Richard, Jodhi Gaudet and Geoff Gaudet. Flower Bearers consisted of Noah Whitty, Jaxon MacLaren, and Danika MacLaren. Music was provided by Travis Boudreau, Maxine MacLennan and Frank Whitty singing, Processional, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman; Psalm, Morning Has Broken; Preparation of gifts, You Raise Me Up; Communion, The Old Rugged Cross; Meditation; Danny Boy; Incensing, Songs of the Angels; and Recessional, More and More About Jesus. ” A tribute to Grammy” was read by Trent Whitty, and a special family request song – Mother of ours was sung following the mass. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
