Marguerite (Marg) Rioux (nee Graham) passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Colville Manor Nursing Home in Souris PEI, aged 94. Born in Fredericton, N.B., the second youngest of five children, she lived in Stanley, N.B., returning to Fredericton as a teen and attending Fredericton High School, where she graduated in 1945. At 17, she began working for the Provincial Government of New Brunswick in the Department of Health, where she remained for a year before moving to the Department of Justice. For the following 46 years, she worked within the Department of Justice in various capacities, finishing as a Licensing Officer for Insurance Adjustors. At the time of her retirement, she was the longest serving civil servant in the history of New Brunswick government. An athlete in her youth, she played softball with the CYO Softball League 1949-1953 and as champions, they were inducted into the Softball NB Inc. Hall of Fame in June 2013. She also was an accomplished pianist, and spent many years volunteering her skills at various nursing homes in Fredericton area, where she would lead enthusiastic sing alongs while accompanying on piano. Marg is survived by her daughter Colleen of Calgary, daughter Holly Pierlot (Philip) of Morell, PEI, and son Kerry (Carol) of Calgary, her grandchildren: Anna Pierlot, Jessica Wourms (Joseph), Luke Pierlot (Erica), Virginia Pierlot, all of Morell, and Nicholas Pierlot (Denise) of Bruno, Saskatchewan, Carlie Rioux of Calgary, and Kellan Rioux, of Calgary, as well as 7 great-grandchildren to date. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Doris Fury and Elynor Cunningham, brothers Bill and Jack, and late husband, Joseph Aurel Rioux. Prayers and visitation will take place at North Shore Funeral Home, Morell on Thursday, June 2 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa, The Little Flower Roman Catholic church in Morell. Memorial donations in Marg’s memory may be made to Colville Manor in Souris for “Seniors in need.” A memorial service and burial will take place in Fredericton NB at a date to be announced. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
The funeral mass for the late Marguerite “Marg” Rioux was held on Friday, June 03, 2022 at St. Theresa, The Little Flower Roman Catholic Church, Morell, with Father Brian MacDougall officiating. The Altar servers were Megan and Mary Kelly. Laying the Pall was Philip Pierlot. Anna Pierlot live streamed the celebration for family and friends that couldn’t attend. The first reading was read by Virginia Pierlot, while Anna Pierlot proclaimed the second reading. Virginia Pierlot offered the prayers of intercession. Father Brian MacDougall read the gospel and delivered the homily. Honorary pallbearers were Kerry Rioux, Kellan Rioux, Nicholas Pierlot, Colleen Rioux, Carol Rioux, and Carlie Rioux. Pallbearers consisted of Philip Pierlot, Ian MacAdam, Jason Cheeseman, Philip Beaulac, Luke Pierlot and Charlie MacAdam. Flower bearers were Edith Wourms, Darius Pierlot, and Erica Pierlot. Music was provided by Joe and Jessica Wourms singing: Processional, Immaculate Mary; Psalm, The Ave Maria; Preparation of Gifts, All For Your Glory; Communion, Rest; Meditation, The Fields of Athenry; Incensing, Jesus Remember Me; and the Recessional, Be Not Afraid. Interment will take place later at Hermitage Catholic Cemetery, Fredericton NB. The funeral was under the direction of North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
