The death occurred peacefully at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre, Charlottetown, on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 of Leonard Joseph Myers of Head of Hillsborough, aged 80 years. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Isabel (Aylward). Leonard will be sadly missed by his children Fabian (Debbie), Jackie (Sherri), Susan (Mick Bull), and Gerard (Barbi); his brothers and sisters Leslie (Margaret), Valerie (Stirling) Laybolt, Francis (Brenda); sisters-in-law Shirley-Kevin and Shirley-John; brothers-in-law Jim Paquet and Harold MacAulay; and the Aylward family. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, who all called him Pop, Candace, Craig, Michael, Thomas, Amanda, Dallas, Ashtin, Dustin, Alexis, Summer and Brandon; great-grandchildren Hannah, Elizabeth, Ellsie, Jack, Henry, Evelyn, Nora, Eric and Sophia; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leonard was predeceased by his parents Frank and Valeria (McCarthy); brothers Cecil (Judy), Jimmy, Kevin and John; sisters Mary Harper (Jim), Betty Paquet and Imelda MacAulay.
Resting at North Shore Funeral Home, Morell for visitation on Sunday, August 6, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral mass to be held Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church, Green Meadows. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery, with reception for family and friends in the vestry after the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard’s memory to the Renal Clinic, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, would be appreciated. To send the family an online condolence, please see below. The funeral for the late Leonard Joseph Myers was held on August 07, 2023, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church, Green Meadows, with Father Danny Wilson officiating. Altar servers consisted of Rose O’Brien, Cindy Byrnes and Leonard Kelly. Laying the Pall were Fabian Myers, Jackie Myers, Susan Myers and Gerard Myers. Lighting of the Pascal Candle were Alexis Myers, Summer Myers, and Ashtin Myers. Eucharistic Minister was Susan Myers. Gift Bearers were Candace Myers and Amanda Squires. The first reading was read by Jana Adams while Krista MacLeod proclaimed the second reading. Hannah Myers offered the prayers of intercession. Father Wilson read the gospel and delivered the homily. The pallbearers consisted of Craig Myers, Dallas Myers, Michael Myers, Dustin Myers, Kenneth Myers and John Aylward. Junior pallbearers were Brandon Myers and Ellsie Squires. Honorary pallbearer was Corporal Thomas J.F. Myers. Music was provided by Larry Phelan singing, Processional, Be Not Afraid; Psalm, The Lord is My Shepherd; Preparation of gifts, On This Day O’ Beautiful Mother; Communion, One Bread, One Body; Meditation; Come to the Water; Incensing, Songs of the Angels; and Recessional, Old Rugged Cross. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
