The death occurred peacefully at Gillis Lodge, Belfast, with family by his side, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, of Lornie Hendricken, aged 90, formerly of Fanningbrook, P.E.I. Lornie is survived by his brothers and sisters, J. P. Hendricken, Dianne McKay (Donald), Coleen Rodgerson (Howard) and Leo Hendricken (Helen); sisters-in-law, Velma Hendricken and Marjorie Hendricken; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Catherine (nee Phelan) Hendricken; brothers and sisters, Irwin Hendricken, Bernice (Howard) Kelly, Phelan (Dianne) Hendricken, Frank Hendricken, Elaine Wood and Claire Hendricken; and sister-in-law, Marie Hendricken.
Lornie was well-known for his love of working the land, goose hunting, working in the woods, playing cards around the community, and blocking wood for himself and his neighbours until he was well into his eighties. He spent many years working at IFJ Farms in Pisquid, a job that he took great pride in. In later years, he enjoyed goose-watching more than hunting.
The family sends huge thanks to the staff of Gillis Lodge for all their support and care for Lornie over the last year and a half.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Stewart, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
If desired, donations in Lornie’s memory to the PEI Humane Society or the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to North Shore Funeral Home.
